Blog?? 1/28/2005 3:50:18 PM
Okay, I admit it, this blog thing could become addicting, the idea of being able to write your thoughts about anything and reading the thoughts and meanderings of others is just too cool. I'm sorry I took so long to check it out. I somehow had the idea that it was some sort of chat room, and I avoid those at all costs. Not that I have anything against chat rooms per se but I haven't a clue what all those people are talking about and when they are talking to me and what all those symbols and psuedonyms stand for. It's frightening, I have always considered myself pretty up on everything but chat rooms have defeated me completely. And cyber sex? Now there is an intriguing concept but damned if I can figure out how you do THAT and type at the same time.
Okay I'm not quite that naive...but I thought I would act like I am anyway, see if someone would try to explain it to me. That in itself would be worth a blog or two.
I came to the internet fairly recently, no more than three years ago, although we have used it at work for longer, I just could not see how it could be of interest to me as a person. That was before my daughter discovered a poetry site and posted a few of my poems. She told me about it eventually and between us, we created a person, her picture and my poetry, comments from both of us, and for a year we had so much fun. I think the only thing that finally made me fess up and post my own picture on my biography was that I began to get to know people and it felt dishonest. But I have to tell you, I wrote better hiding behind Deb's picture than I ever have since. Well, maybe not better, just different. I used to write erotic poetry and wasn't the least self conscious about it...after all I was a beautiful 35 year old...now as a more realistic 56 year old, I think more about what I write and can't write with the freedom I once did. I have mixed emotions about it, at times I miss hiding behind the persona we had created, other times I'm happy that I know the people who respond to my writing are responding to me, not a made up person. I guess I liked the freedom I had then, for instance, drug use and uncommitted sex was a large part of my life in the sixties and I used to make reference to that time without a thought. Now I feel I need to preface it with a lecture to young people on the dangers of drug use and unsafe sex. I sincerely believe that writing should not be censored but then I feel the responsibility to censor myself. It helps that we can now post erotic poetry under its own area but it's too late for me, my days of unbridled erotica seems to have ended. How about a moment of silence...thank you
