Who is the winner? 2/7/2007 5:33:05 PM
An older couple here in my neighborhood just won 254 million on Powerball, bought it at the store right in front of me, a place I am in and out of several times a week. Me? I bought my ticket down the street at QT...
I spent a few minutes thinking that it could have been me, and then I started thinking about the hell it would play with my life. Money won't get John out of jail, but I would feel guilty being wealthy and unable to help him. I feel bad enough already but I have long ago learned I am an enabler and I only do my kids more harm trying to buy their way out of trouble. I spent a lot of money learning that lesson and still haven't been real successful at saying no to them, so more money would not be an asset. And Deb? Scary thinking what she would do with a lot of money. She is totally irresponsible as it is, she has broke me several times in the past, her salvation is that I run out of cash and have to say no eventually. She is doing pretty good right now, but with unlimited funds, mine or hers, she could be in real trouble.
Susie and her family would not use me for money. I could pay off their house and Michael's college, but they will pay off their own home and Michael will pay his student loans like I did, like most students do and he will survive it. Would having too much change them? Kasey could do some major shopping and she is only eight, makeup and hip hop music is not something she needs, but given the opportunity, she would indulge. I can easily see how money could change even a happy family. Not enough or too much. Either one could be hard on us all. Luckily we have never been poor but being too rich is not for us. No, 254 million was a moments dream...but not for me, thank you. I'm a winner already.
