Happy New Year 12/30/2006 9:29:28 AM
Just thought I would take a moment to say this to you all
I'm getting dressed to go out to lunch with my sister (yes she is the same old sourpuss she has always been) and the computer just kept getting in my way. I don't have any real plans for the holiday, lunch with Mary today, a movie with my grandson tonight...we started to go last night but ended up at Shogun's Japanese Steakhouse watching our meal being cooked on a grill in front of us. Nice experience, but we still want to see the Ben Stiller movie so we will go tonight. Lets see, tomorrow I will drive my parents to church, stay for the services and take them to lunch somewhere if Dad feels up to it. He had a stroke some time ago and is alot like a child, we pretty much make our plans depending on what kind of day he is having. If it doesn't rain, my daughter Susie's subdivision will block off the street, bring out the grills and fireplaces and ring in the New Year together. If it rains they will all end up at one house as they do for all holidays, they are a very close group of neighbors. I don't think I will be there. It is safe enough during the night but I still have to drive home afterward and even though we live barely a mile apart, I just don't like to be out on New Years Eve. God, you would think we lived in a dangerous area instead of the area we are in, which is one of the lowest crime areas in St Louis. I live in what is called the Concord area of St Louis County, it is a boring area if you are looking for excitement but a wonderful place to raise children and live quietly. But as I said, anywhere is too much for me on this one night of the year. I stay home on my sofa, a glass of non alchoholic champagne close at hand and watch the tv celebration between pages of a good book. I know my grandson will be at home, my family, with the exception of Deb, who no one can account for, are all safely at home where they can have a drink or two or three and not have to stumble far to bed. As for Deb, I have no idea what she will do tomorrow night and I'm probably happier not knowing. She's still my wild child.
You are probably wondering where all of this is going and I have to admit...nowhere...I am just rambling because I feel like it and these blogs are such a wonderful place to do that. I hope you are all happy and safe this weekend. Please celebrate safely but have fun, thats what this holiday is all about. For me, the fun is quiet, but it hasn't always been that way and I remember the excitement of getting dressed up for a New Years Eve Party. I also remember some extraordinary hangovers but we won't go there. I am very happy at this juncture of my life and I guess I just wish this contentment for all of you, in whatever way makes you happy.
