Ice Cream 7/13/2007 10:54:18 AM
There are no better things in life than ice cream and chocolate...and chocolate ice cream, heaven!
I just started low carb again today, trying to take off the few pounds I gained in Florida. I seem to have made it my personal duty to eat everything in Florida, no exceptions, and it had the inevitable result. So I’m back on meat and salads, eggs and cheese, at least for a while. And you know how it is, as soon as I say the words ‘low carb’ I start craving sweets, especially ice cream. We have this fantastic place in St Louis called Ted Drewes and he makes the best soft ice cream in the world. He won’t even discuss calorie content, says it doesn’t matter, just eat it and worry later. And he is right, when you are eating a Drewes concrete, the last thing on your mind is calories. The truth is, I only go to Ted’s about twice a year…it is just too rich for me at normal times. But now…I’m dying to head over to South Grand and indulge…just cause I know I won’t. I deliberately keep no sweets in the house, except for the dark chocolate I keep in the freezer all the time, so I will be okay at home, but damn, how will I pass all those places on the way home. Even McDonald’s has good cones. This is only my second day…by next week I will be crying and moaning all the way home. But I’ll be okay, Atkins is about the only diet I can ever stay on for any time at all. It isn’t really healthy for a long term plan I guess but even on low carb, I’ll only last till I’ve taken off 10 pounds or so. I’m notoriously low on will power. And I love food. All food. The only food I have ever tried that I didn’t like is beets. I love escargot even, and if you’d told me 20 years ago I would eat snails, I would have laughed. Or cried. If it doesn’t move too fast, I’ll eat it. So I’m in for a pleasant two or three weeks. Think about me if you are eating ice cream…..
