Lotta gabbing to do as my brain is filled up and it's the 40th anniversity of 'the Hippy.' Been a while since I talked to you all. You people realize the Hippy is about to turn 40? Marcus you're actually a little older than that? Marcus said he wore a jean jacket back in high school and had longer hair but all those seventies kids had longer hair. I guess Marcus was kind of a hippy. Well a lot of you Gen Yers and some of you Gen Xers have to give credit to some of those hippies because you wouldn't be around right? Just kidding now you people think my parents were like Hippies well like think again. Father was in the Air Force ROTC during that 'Summer of Love' in '67 and mother well she was a very conservative Hawkeye soriety type girl. And you know that there's nothing hipppyish about me, well I am a bit of a bohemian.
That slogan 'Make love not war' was really popular back in those hippy days. I can understand about not making war on anyone. It's absolutely ridiculous to kill or injure people over 'political reasons' but I'm not too nuts about the term 'make love.' I happen to be a Chrisitian girl who does not believes in any 'hanky panky' stuff before or after
marriage. I means all these STDs and viruses people could get these days. I mean that fella in that movie who was like a '40 year old virgin,' in a way he should be proud of himself. I think a better term would be Make Peace not War.
Marcus you know there's gonna be a sequel for the '40 year old virgin,' maybe 'the 45 year old virgin takes on the Alien.' Now when the heck are you gonna write a sequel to Fifi?
You people ever been to a Motel 6 when you've traveled across this great country to get a great nights rest? Who hasn't? Well it's said to say that one of the cofounders of Motel 6, William Becker, passed away. Rest in peace, Mr Becker, you sure made it convenient and inexpensive for a person to get a good night's sleep?
We had so many people at our Summertime Productions booth at the UCLA festival of books. I was there. How many of you fellow authors came?
You fellow authors who live in LA need to go see a great movie about teachers called Chalk. Marcus of course is a teacher and just loved the movie and will invite some other teachers to see it. Anyways the movie was produced/directed by 2 former teachers and will show for a week in Santa Monica at the NUART.
You fellow authors need to realize you need to make tons and tons of contacts with independent movie people, independent bookstores, whatever to someone taking a chance at looking at your books. REMEMBER EVEN BOOKS PUBLISHED BY BIG NAME FIRMS LIKE RANDOM HOUSE ARE SITTING IN THE BACK SHELVES OF THAT BORDERS SUPERSTORE IN DOWNTOWN LA OR NEW YORK OR CHICAGO. So getting your book published by a big company does not guarantee big sales. You need to think out of the box, mingle with all kinds of people, go to every book selling event possible to get people to notice your book. But again think of all those long lines for Spiderman what is it now 20? or the expected blockbuster sales we will all see with Harry Potters latest book and movie coming out later this summer? Now I know you people have characters just as intersting as Harry and Spider right? I know I am. Remember what I keep saying. TO BE SUCCESFUL YOU NEED TO PUSH PUSH PUSH NOT JUST WATCH THE SUN GO UP AND DOWN. OK way way more than enough thoughts. Told you I had a lot on my brain and would talk a lot
