An actresses 'half life' My acting teacher is Charlotte Evans, a well known character actress back in the 70s and 80s. She made a lot of soap operas and was in a few sitcoms back in those days too.
Anyways she told me that by the time I reach my thirties I should really be succesful at getting a lot of big roles.
Well I told Charlotte that I had better not wait till my thirties till I get roles. I told her that when I studied like algebra or is it calculus back in high school and college and they talked about an exponential curve where things go up or down rapidly in a short amount of time.
I told her that exponential curves for an actress goes down sharply as she ages. You know it's like a hundred time harder to get roles for each decade of her life. It's like a hundred times harder for an actress to get a good role in her thirties than her twenties and so on, and it's like 50 times for each half decade, like 50 times harder harder for an actress to get roles in her late twenties than her early twenties and so forth... (Can the same be said of finding a nice mate?). So by the time an actress reaches her forties if she's not well known by then the chances of her getting a role in Hollywood is miniscule.
I also told Charlotte that the 'half life' of an actress career is incredibly short. Any of you people take physics in high school and college like I did? Well they talk about they talk about how they can find when some ancient animal or cave man lived by finding the half life of it's bones thru radioactive carbon dating.
Well I told Charlotte the half life of an actresses career in her prime is incredibly short, maybe 5 to ten years, so that means the antire career for an actress in her prime is like only 10 to 20 years at most.
Charlotte kind of stared at me a few minutes and then muttered yes it is a little more difficult for an older actress to land roles but if I have talent they'll still come looking for me regardless of my age and then she kind of walked away, shaking her head. But I think she got the point of how difficult it for an actress to land a role as she gets older. You also understand that I didn't mention 'actors.' I mean I've seen some actors who I've never seen before in my life making their screen debuts like in their late thirties or even their forties. There's some kind of double standard going on here. It's still a male dominated society in my opinion. OK more than enough thoughts for now. Next time I'll talk about what my New Years resolutions and what yours should be too. By the way did you all get nice Christmas presents? I can't believe Biff got me a bikini.....I told him we're still just 'friends......'
