The Science behind the Cubs futility. Another Cubs season has begun and as usual the Cubs are back to their losing ways, losing 2 out of 3 to the Brewers. Of course the Cubs are picked by a number of prognastinators to actually end their 100 year jinx and win it all this year. (By the way I'm looking to see if there are Cub fans to celebrate the 100th anniversary since we last won a Series in 1908 or even the 63rd anniverary of GETTING into a Series).
Of course with the Cubs there are all the superstitions and jinxes and I was only around to remember the great Leon Durham (cried so much as a baby in '84), the frustating loss to the Giants in '89 (cried as a little girl) and the great Steve Bartman (cried like a baby as an adult in 2003). I wasn't around when we blew in it '69 or when there were billygoats or black cats running all over the place.
I talked to my friend Alocki the scientist from the planet Zatoris about the Cubs bad luck and she said there was no such thing as bad luck. She told me for the Cubs to win me it was just a matter of mathematics (probablilty and angles and stuff like that) and physics (bat speed and velocity of pitches and the proper aerodynamic 'lift' of the balls into the bleachers for home runs). It was just that the Cubs needed to find the right kind of 'chemistry' to increase the 'probability' that the physics and aerodynamics would be condusive to the Cubs winning a championship.
I told Alocki it is an amazing feat and almost defies 'probability' that for a hundred years the velocity and angle of pitches thrown by opposing pitchers have been very succesful at getting Cub batters out and seem to be superior to those of the Cubs pitchers. That the opposing batters seem to hit the ball with better 'bat speed' and have better 'areodynamic lift' when they leave their bats than Cub batters. That opposing fielders judge the angle and velocity of the balls flight or bounce better and make better fielding plays than Cub fielders. That genetically opposing players seem to have better eyesight and hand/foot coordination than Cub players and strike out less and make fewer errors. So I challenged Alcoki in her statement that the Cubs futiltiy was just a matter of Science and for once she didn't have an answer.
I just gave some blood yesterday. You know being a Christian girl, I do things like that. I did get a cookie and some orange juice for my 'donation.' The nurse said there was a real 'shortage' of blood donors. Well I did notice there was only one or two other people at the clinic donating blood. Now I told that nurse there would be no 'shortage,' especially in these economic times, if the hospitals and clinics gave a little 'stipend' to be people to donate their blood. I find it interesting that 'gold' is around 800 bucks and ounce yet people are giving 'pints' of blood for free. Now you tell me what really is more important for living a healthy life on this Earth? Gold or Blood? If people were paid $800 a pint for their blood, hospitals would not have to worry about any 'shortage.' The lines would be so long in that clinic I would probably be standing out in the street for half a day so. I would have to spend a couple of hours trying to find a parking space. If the hospitals paid people $800 a pint I would make a reservation to donate.......in the year 2010. Also if they paid a lot of money for 'body parts' you would not find any shortage of people giving away nonvital organs. You think there aren't a lot of people who would not consider giving a 'kidney' for say two hundred grand or an 'arm' for a hundred grand? Think again. Let's see what body part would I consider 'selling.' Maybe my right pinkey for say 25 grand. Omigosh I would be mistaken for one of these Japanese 'yakusa.' But I would never do that, the Lord doesn't care for people 'mutilating' themselves for profit.
