Its the 40th anniversary of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds and all those high paying jobs that don't require brains or talent You older baby boomer and Gen X people remember Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds from the Beatles. Well you probably think when you look at the initials L.S.D. that they were inferrring to some crazy psychedelic drug that also became very popular during that 67 'summer of love.' Well I just find out that John Lennon got the inspiration from the song from his son's crayon picture of a school friend named Lucy and it had nothing to do with, you know, 'dope.' So sorry to disappoint any of you pothead exhippy types.
I just wrote a list last night for all you struggling authors and screenwriters and actors and actresses who can look at very high paying alternate jobs that don't take a lot of brains or talent if you get frustrated trying to reach the top of that 'mountain.'
Politician - Just have a loud voice and be able to come up with a lot of silly thoughts and be able to 'pursuade' other people to follow your silly thoughts. Omigosh I'm ready to run for mayor of LA and I know I won't cheat on anybody. Or maybe governor of California, I mean if a mediocre actor/bodybuilder can be governor.....
College or Pro football or basketball coach or major league manager. Heck you don't even have to be a former 'player' to get this job and being a long time suffering Cubs fans and seeing the silly moves Cubs managers have made over the years.... and guess what Ladies? Women's basketball coaches at big time colleges make almost as much as the Men's coaches.
Comedian - See requirements to be a politician
Wall Street Stockbroker - See requirements to be a poltitician but this is more of a seasonal activity and only should be pursued when stock market is doing well like
now.
Top Sales executive - see requirements to be a politician
Top Hollywood executive - see requirements to be a politician especially when you look at the quality of the movies and TV shows today.
Well you people kind of get it. I mean I'm getting a bit tired of being a low paid waitress and getting turned down at all these auditions and need to start putting my college degree from a top liberal arts school to work.
Oh the Double Os get worse and worse and worse when it comes to quality movies. Just saw 'Interview' last night with Steve Buscemi and Sienna Miller. Ugh and arrghhh is the only way to describe the nonsense going on in this movie. Not one of Buscemi's better works and you may want to see reruns of Fargo or Trees Lounge or Ghost World before you see this jumbled mess. As for Sienna well all I kind say is she does a very accurate potrait of 'dumb blonde bimbo.'
Oh the new Harry Potter movie is just as deep like all the Harry Potter's before this one or like any of these other English melodramas like Shakespeare and Jane Austen and Lord of the Rings and all those mysterious things. Harry Potter was so deep I didn't feel the least bit sleepy after the movie because I snored thru most of it. Harry Potter was so deep the screen looked like it was 200 feet high. Harry Potter was so deep I got tired of hearing all those people whispering in their cells throughout the movie. With all apologies to all those high browed British literary types whom I know some are 'Fifi' fans it's time to get away from 'deep movies' and put something fun on the screen well like....'Fifi.'
Speaking of summer of love retro farewell to a classy lady who was quite popular back then, Lady Bird Johnson. Marcus is old enough to remember Lady Bird being almost the celebrity in '67 that Hillary is today.
You retro people realize that some of those old Babyboomer and Gen x toys from the 50s, 60s, and 70s are worth a lot on ebay? You know Barbies and slinkys and hoolahoops and GI Joes and stuff like. I just saw a TV show where a buyer paid a mint for a BOX THAT A TOY MADE IN THE 1950S WAS IN. I need to go back to my home in Des Moines and find some of my old toys in the attic. Hopefully mother didn't throw those toys away. They could be worth a lot, including the boxes, in the future.
Another summer of love retro item. IT'S THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF ROWAN AND MARTIN'S LAUGH IN. OK MORE THAN ENOUGH THOUGHTS FOR NOW.
